Business Growth Consultant

You’re the newest member of the One Consulting Team tell us about your background and career so far:

My most recent role was within public sector recruitment. I was mainly working with housing associations and local authorities, managing their recruitment, candidate screening and compliance across all departments and for all roles. Prior to that, my focus was business management and sales within the automotive industry. By nature, I’m a hard worker, but more so, a people person. I actually started working at 13 in a local café and ever since then the customer and client experience, and most importantly the relationship is at the heart of everything I do. It’s all about the people. I love meeting and getting to know new people. And it’s not just about their professional life, but also what makes them tick, what they like to do out of work and what they’re passionate about. I believe it’s these types of conversations that build strong relationships that last and that is what I am most grateful for in my career so far.

What’s your role in One Consulting and what’s the key expertise you bring that you think will be of most value to One Consulting’s clients?

I am One Consulting’s Business Growth Consultant. I bring vast experience of engaging with many different types of people at all levels but also in varying situations. I am an advocate for networking, I think it’s such an amazing, powerful thing to do. It’s a space for yourself and others to talk openly and freely, meet new people and share knowledge and expertise which is extremely valuable. Having worked so closely with clients in the Public and Housing Sector, I have extensive knowledge of how these organisations work operationally which helps me to understand and empathise with them around the challenges they face but it also enables me to make reliable recommendations about the services we offer and how we can support them through their transformation.

What attracted you to join the One Consulting Team?

There were a few things. Steve, One Consulting’s Managing Director, was one of them. He is so passionate about what he does and his vision for future, but he is also extremely people focused and is always giving back to those in need. The second reason I joined the team was because I wholeheartedly agree with our pillars and values. I love that the work we do really helps organisations transform and evolve. The third and final reason is that we have strong Social Values and actively make an impact by giving back to society, promoting digital inclusion, and ending digital poverty, supporting community initiatives, reducing our carbon footprint – the list goes on. In short, it’s just a great company to be a part of in so many ways and I got that impression immediately.  I am also from Manchester and after 10 years away it’s nice to be back home and seeing how our city is thriving.

You’re a number of weeks into the role now.. what are your first impressions? Has anything surprised you?

I have quite a few first impressions, I won’t bore you with them all but the main two for me are: Things are changing rapidly but organisations and businesses are embracing it and actively looking for ways to transform and invest in their future; and everyone I have met and connected with has been so open and honest about where they are in their journey. For example, what’s worked, what hasn’t, their challenges and where they want to go, which is really refreshing. It shows the world is changing and that a new culture is forming in the sector.

What are you most looking forward to over the next year?

It’s only been a few weeks, however I am looking forward to working more closely with our current and new clients, and excited to see how they transform, continue to evolve and how they’re able to improve the service they offer to their customers through our engagements with them. I’m also looking forward to learning more and enhancing my skills and of course, getting to know my new colleagues.

I’m sure our followers would be interested in hearing more about you and your interests?

Horses & Horsepower. That pretty much sums me up! My grandad was a jockey at Newmarket, and I am very lucky to have been riding since I was five years old and have worked hard to buy, keep, and compete with my own horses. I am also a HUGE petrol head and love going to shows, race events, participating in track days and even the odd bit of racing myself! I recently learned to drift, and I must say, I’m hooked! In my earlier years, I did a lot of performing and studied music at university. I still do the odd bit of singing when asked for events and charity functions. Finally, I’m extremely passionate about physical and mental health and wellbeing and nutrition and I’m soon to qualify as a Level 4 Advanced Nutritionist.

A final thought?

The C word, over the past 12-18 months has changed everything; the way we work, the way we live, our priorities, our values – I could go on. But what it has done, not just in the UK but globally, has brought us all together and helped us embrace change. It’s affirmed technology’s place in the world both personally and professionally and getting to be a part of that, driving change and contributing to making a difference, is very exciting and I would recommend everyone to get involved where they can. I for one can’t wait to see what happens next!
